2014 christmas stuff

I'm trying to post a couple of photos of my latest finished projects. Two baby quilts from string blocks I made just for the fun of it. Will put away for future gifts. Also the decorated gift bags I made from plain brown gift sacs from dollar store and yoyos. Now we'll see if I can upload them. Can't get the photos to ope, just get a bunch of jibberish. bummer I did get the photos to upload on facebook. Go figure.

Oct. happenings

It's been a month since I last posted.  I have been working with my string blocks.  Made a couple of tops for baby quilts, just finishing the binding on

a girl quilt and ready to start quilting the boy quilt.  I would have been done a week ago if I hadn't screwed up the binding by trying to do it all by machine.  Have removed the messed up binding and attached new binding this morning and will stitch it down by hand.  Sometimes the hard way is still better.  I will post a photo when it's all done and ready to put away until needed.

I am going to go back outside and just enjoy this beautiful day.  A day like this at the end of Oct. is a bonus day IMHO. 

George's bp has been elevated the last couple of weeks and I'm thinking it's the cold meat sandwiches we've been eating.  I usually make our lunch from leftover roasts or chicken but decided to just buy some cold cuts.  Too much salt for him.  So today it'll be a salad and rolls.

Two of William's huge pumpkins, weighed in over 600 lbs.  He's aiming for 1000 lbs. for next year.

My Thursday stuff

Kind of a dreary day today, cloudy and cool.  Don't have the furnace on, keeping warm enough in the house so far.  Went grocery shopping this morning and sewing more strip blocks this afternoon.  Going to try to post the photos of my bom wall hangings I've been doing since Jan. 

I'm back

It's been a busy summer around here, Installed new sliding glass doors in the sun room, 5 of them.  Hope the new ones keep the winter cold out, they seem to be keeping the heat at bay.  George has removed about 8 evergreens that were either dead or dying.  It's starting to look kind of barren in the yeard.  Still got our wind and snow barrier arbor vides.

I haven't done much sewing but did start playing with a new technique this week, making string blocks from the BIG bin of left over strips I have.  I'll see if a photo will slide in here.  They all kind of look alike to me.  Maybe with sashing and cornerstones it will all play nice together.  I'm going to make up a few more blocks for a good size lap quilt.  I still have a boat load of strips, they are multiplying when no ones looking.

Well it's been almost a year since I posted, will try to do better this year.  I've tried to upload photos but they disappeared so will try again.  Been busy since the first of the year.  Embroidered a plain sweat shirt, two dish towels, one dish rag, one hot pad, one pin cushion, 4 valentine gift bags. A small lap quilt for my brother-in-law to use in his wheel chair.   I'll try to upload photos again and see if yahoo/google  will play nice.

I'm working on a project with an on line quilt group with a Celtic Thunder theme to each block.  The first block was one with a kitty playing with a Celtic knot.  I cheated and just cut out the knot, think it will look OK.  The Feb. block is supposed to depict Coming Home and I had a cool  piece of fabric with sail boats, flags and lighthouses.  Couldn't use the light houses but I did use the sail boats and flag strips.  Might be able to use the lighthouses in another block.

Didn't get much sewing done today, George was home and he kept finding things for me to do.  Like order his license plate sticker, find out why we don't have a tax report we need for 2012 taxes, grocery shopping, pay bills and make a pie.  Hope he finds something to do tomorrow besides things for me to do.

All in all a good day even if I didn't get to sew very much, got a lot of piddly stuff done.

I delivered the Asian quilt to Gail yesterday afternoon and am a wee bit sad that it's done.  It was a fun quilt to work on and one I really liked when it was done. 

Going to start  a new project, well not exactly new, it's a UFO that needs some tweaking.  I got all the pieced blocks sewn together and don't care for the way they look.  Very busy fabric and blocks so I'm going to try and tone it down a bit with plain brown sqs. with appliqued flowers from the original fabric leftovers.  Hope it looks better.

Been having fun with my Go Cutter and have made some hot pads and matching dish towels.  Will put away for quick gifts when needed. 

That's it for today, keeping busy awaiting the BIG snow that's coming in tonight.  Would have been nicer if we had gotten all this snow around Christmas instead of Spring.  Oh well it is what it is.
