Had a busy day with Emmie and Katie. Got Katie's school supplies and some new running shorts and tops. We also got a new kitchen toy, a pie maker. Picked William up at home and came to my house to play with our new stuff. Getting those school supplies and sorting through them is better than Christmas. Then we played with the pie maker and made chicken pot pies for lunch, steamed chicken breasts in broth, made a thin white sauce, added the cooked chicken (glad I made an extra chicken breast for the kids to nibble on) and sweet peas to the sauce. We made the crusts out out of a tube of crescent roll dough, cut out and put the bottom crust into the pie maker, put 1/2 c. filling in the bottom crust and put the top crust on each of the pies (makes 4 at a time) closed the lid and baked for 10 min. William and I each ate 1 and Katie and Emmie ate 2, we had to make a 2nd batch. Then we peel-ed peaches, sauteed the slices in butter, added sugar, lemon juice and corn starch and cooked til peaches were done. We used regular pie dough and made little pies. The kids took 5 home and left 3 for me and grandpa.
It's so nice to have a grand kid that can drive, she took a couple of items back to the store to exchange for different size. Target has a wonderful return policy, love that.
No sewing but a busy, fun day and Emmie is such a great cleaner upper. Thanks sweetie.

Had a quiet 4th, George drove in the Elgin parade and I stayed home in the nice ac. Did oven fried chicken, zucchini and pasta salad for dinner. I did some hand embroidery while we watched TV. Watched "The Capital 4th" show, it was awesome and very patriotic. Love that on the 4th.
Today George is home so we're going to vacuum and dust, he drives the vacuum and I swifter tables, shelves, knick knacks, etc. The house has been closed up for too many days we really need some fresh air in here but not til it cools down.
I haven't honed in on another project yet, I have the backing and binding done on the Asian quilt so it is ready to be quilted. I need to contact Edith and see when I can get it to her, she's the bestist la quilter in the world. Well in my world. I wish I could quilt it myself but I can't wrestle quilts on the sewing machine anymore.

Katie's 13th birthday cupcakes
The girls called this morning and wanted to know if they could come over and bake cupcakes and decorate them for Katie to take to running tonight to share with some of her running friends. I told them they could come over and we went shopping for cake mix, small marshmallows and colored sugar. The photos below are the end results of the design Emily came up with and they spent the whole day starting with naked cupcakes, butter frosted cupcakes, making the marshmallow petals and applying to the frosted cupcakes. William, 10 yrs. old, helped grandma figure out why I wasn't able to download photos anymore. Had em downloaded in less than 10 min. and I've been working for days to try and figure it out. Oh to be 10 again. fun day even though grandma started out a wee bit crabby. Sorry kids, that's what too high or too low blood sugar will do to a person. (((big hugs))).

Cool Friday morning
I am having a very frustrating morning, took two photos this morning and can't get them to download from the camera to the computer. Arghhh!!! I just may have dropped the camera one time too many. I'll keep trying in a little bit. I took a picture of the Robin's nest that has been built on the heat vent outside the garage heater, think we'll have babies in a week or 2. I also took a picture of the Easter Lily that's blooming just outside our bedroom window and the aroma that drifts in through the window is lovely. Don't you just love the simple joys in life.

The pipe is buried and now we're putting the sod over the trench and he didn't have a heart attack. That's a good thing. Tomorrow he's going to work on the barn overhang, etc. He's swapping out the wooden trim for "a no maintenance" wood like material. The trench is about 18' and deep enough for that black pipe on the lower right corner.

A brr Sat.
and I'm pretty sure I solved the latest issue with the Asian quilt. Don't know why I keep running into these road bumps with this quilt but I shall persist and persevere!!!
Yesterday we had such a wonderful morning at St. Peters. It was grandparents day and George and I and Terry and Lou went to the mass at 8:30. It was a very moving experience, William and Katie were so happy to see us. That does warm your heart. The kindergartner kids, 1st graders and 2nd graders each sang a song for us, telling us how important we are in their lives there wasn't a dry eye in the grandparents section. Very heart warming. We went to the gym afterwards for coffee and donuts and to socialize with the other grandparents, then we went to the grand kids classrooms. William's teacher showed a special project he did, sent and attachment to her computer and she put it up on the "white board". We were so proud of him. Then we went to Katie's class room where we were assigned the task of helping her with a spelling quiz. I made a notation on the words I had her change so the teacher wouldn't blame her if they were wrong? Katie gave me one of her awesome smiles. She is such a beautiful girl, inside and out. Then we had a math problem, thanks to quilting I was able to show her how to connect the dots without taking the pencil off the paper by drawing a quarter sq. triangle block. The second problem was moving 2 of 4 sticks to reverse an object. Now who in quilting has never done that. I think we passed. LOL All in all a very memorable, beautiful day.
Wish this forgetful grandma had remembered her camera. Yack!!!!!
